Fresh off their worldwide tour supporting Djo, Chicago-bred psych-rock outfit Post Animal is hitting the road as headliners, bringing their kaleidoscopic sound to Cat’s Cradle Backroom in Carrboro, NC, on November 11, 2025.
Post Animal currently consists of members Dalton Allison, Matt Williams, Jake Hirshland, Wesley Toledo, and Javier Reyes, who seemed to instantly click with the crowd, Toledo even took it upon himself to reunite an audience member with their lost phone minutes before the show began. The crowd returned the electric energy back ten-fold, causing a synchronous energy between audience and performer(s), resulting in an electrifying air into the intimate venue.
Having just recently dropped IRON, their latest release (which notably saw the return of member Joe Keery), the setlist was heavy on tracks from that album. Highlights included “What’s A Good Life,” “Setting Sun,” “Last Goodbye,” and “Dorien Kregg,” the latter featuring Allison jumping into the crowd mid-song. Longtime fans were also rewarded with older favorites like “Ralphie” and “Dirtpicker” from their 2018 album When I Think of You in a Castle, which drew some of the loudest cheers of the night.
Each member’s musicianship was on full display with ferocious guitar riffs, whirlwind vocals, and rhythms that defied traditional time signatures that underscored the band’s technical skill. Yet what truly set the performance apart was their effortless camaraderie and stage presence. The show felt less like a concert in the traditional sense, and more like a house party amongst friends. There seems to be no ego when it comes to Post Animal, no desperate attempts to pose as a cool indie band (“Don’t be afraid to embarrass yourself,” Reyes told the crowd as he encouraged them to dance). Instead, they offer up their sound without pretense, confident enough to let it speak for itself.
Having gained a surge of internet popularity following their time on the Djo tour, it seems Post Animal has nowhere to go but up. But based on their natural ability to perform, it’s safe to assume we can expect to see them here for the long run.
