Culture Cabinet is a modern music publication focused on thoughtful conversations with artists and the stories behind the songs. We cover new releases, live shows, and creative processes, bringing you the best in indie music by people who live and breath it.

I’ve always loved music. I’m convinced that in my past life, I made music in Laurel Canyon while meticulously curating a vinyl collection full of first-edition pressings of all the greats. In this life, however, I was born with all the passion for music and none of the talent (I’m not bitter, really!). What I was given was a love of writing, a deep curiosity on what drives people to want to create art, and a delight in connecting with creative people. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats: theatre critic, film critic, podcaster, executive producer of a sketch comedy show, occasional guest on your local news station’s Best of Film segment, and even a performer on stage and screen. And while I still do love talking about art in all its forms (you can find my thoughts on film over on our sister site, Common Thread), like the needle of a turntable, I’ve found my groove in music journalism.

I love speaking with artists. I love finding out what feeds them creatively, and what inspires them to keep going in a notoriously difficult industry. In an age that can feel kind of cold, with a society that seems to focus more on what’s behind a screen, I love finding the humanity in music. And in an industry that can be a bit hard to break into, I get a thrill out of spotlighting voices that deserve to be heard.

Music truly gives me life, and I love what I do. I hope you love it here, too.
