Olivia Rodrgo has officially entered a new era with her latest song, “Drop Dead,” released Friday. “Drop Dead” is the first single from her newly announced third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love.

The artist teased a phrase from the song’s lyrics on Instagram earlier this week, sharing a video of herself on a moving train, with “it’s feminine intuition” written in pink font across the screen. The phrase sent pop culture’s corner of the Internet into a frenzy once the song debuted, proving to be a fan-favorite lyric of the new pop anthem.

The song’s pink aesthetics and dreamy lyrics of falling in love are unapologetically “girly,” which is a bit of a departure from the edgier style of lead single, “Vampire,” from Rodrigo’s prior album, GUTS. The aesthetics also serve as a juxtaposition to the title, “Drop Dead,” perhaps not what some had in mind when the name of the single was first announced. But that’s what fans seem to love so much about it. Initial reception is positive, as the song’s corresponding music video, which features Rodrigo prancing through the Palace of Versailles, has already garnered over 6.8 million views on YouTube.

Rodrigo continues her signature talking verse style with “left hook / right punch to the gut,” reminiscent of the opening verse of “Bad Idea, Right?” from GUTS. The cheeky inclusion of the word “gut” doesn’t hurt, either.

Olivia Rodrigo feels fresh and new on “Drop Dead.” The song is a new crush anthem with hopeful, upbeat lyricism and gorgeous synths.

You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love is out June 12.
