New Zealand-based rock band, Borderline, is set to make an appearance at New York’s Mercury Lounge on April 24.
The band, comprised of Ben Glanfield, Jackson Boswell, Matthew McFadden, and Max Harries, is currently on their North American headlining tour, alongside Oceanic, following the release of their EP, Chrysalis, which came out in July of last year.
“We put our heart and soul into the band, and we work so hard on it,” McFadden said in an interview with Culture Cabinet leading up to the EP’s release. “I think to see we’re starting to reap some of the rewards for that now, and it fills us with lots of pride.” Since then, the band has released three new singles, and has embarked on a North American headlining tour.

When talking about the release of Chrysalis, the group was looking forward to playing their songs live for audiences beyond their typical New Zealand fans. “It’s been pretty surreal for us,” McFadden said. “Being from New Zealand, such an isolated country, we have such an awesome music scene here, but it’s quite hard to break out. Having played international shows and just seeing people in the crowd, it’s just not something we can possibly expect. Every time we’ve played a show to a room full of international people, whatever country it is, it just feels insane. It’s something we’re super grateful for, and I don’t think we can get used to. We just want to do as much of that as we possibly can and meet more cool people and expand our audience.”
Because ultimately, Borderline seeks to reap connection amongst its listeners. “A big goal of ours is for people to listen to music like we’d listen to Fleetwood Mac, and our minds would expand,” Glanfield had told Culture Cabinet. “We want people to feel that same thing. That’s sort of the end goal.”
